American Songwriter: Virgin Festival Is Free This Year


While most of this summer’s popular music festivals will cost attendees upwards of several hundred dollars (tickets to Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza run at $240 and $205, respectively), music fans can look forward to a budget option thanks to leading media innovators Virgin Group. Earlier this week, the corporation announced the lineup for its annual Virgin Festival as well as the concert’s ticket price: completely free.

Landon Pigg, the Nashville singer-songwriter of “Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop” fame (you may recognize the single from ad campaigns for De Beers diamonds and AT&T), will release his sophomore album, The Boy Who Never, this fall. Due September 15, The Boy Who Never was produced by Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse) and features a new arrangement of the commercial-friendly “Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop” as well as a host of new tracks gathered throughout the years since Landon’s 2006 debut album, LP.

Post-modern indie rocker Beck has delivered the second installment of his newly-established online Record Club: “I’m Waiting for the Man” from The Velvet Underground’s The Velvet Underground and Nico. The Record Club features the musician and a host of friends recording single-session covers of entire classic albums, to be released song-by-song each week.
